EOU Reading Clinic offers affordable teacher training aligned to HB 3198

The Early Literacy Success Initiative (created by House Bill 3198) provides grants to schools across Oregon that will provide funding for professional development and coaching in evidence-aligned literacy strategies. Eastern Oregon University Reading Clinic, in partnership with the Schuberth/Urang Family, is thrilled to offer online teacher training, Building a Strong Foundation in Literacy, aligned to reading science, that is affordable and accessible for any teacher, school, or district in Oregon beginning in January 2024.

Programs

Undergraduate Elementary Education

EOU offers the Undergraduate Elementary Education program, which results in a Bachelor’s degree and teacher licensure at the elementary level.

Undergraduate Special Education

The SEITL undergraduate program is a comprehensive two-year program that combines coursework in core study areas and structured in-person practicum and student teaching field placements.

Master of Arts in Teaching

The MAT Program is a graduate teacher preparation program designed to help students obtain Preliminary Oregon Licensure in either an Elementary-Multiple Subjects or Secondary-Single Subject Area(s) and to enable students to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching Degree.

Master of Science in Education Degree Program

The Master of Science degree (MS) is intended to provide the student with a strong graduate-level course of study related to the field of education.

Curriculum Leadership Certificate

EOU offers a graduate online Curriculum Leadership certificate intended for teachers who want to develop skills to provide effective curriculum leadership.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is available at a graduate or undergraduate level and can be taken in conjunction with the Undergraduate Elementary Education program, or the MS in Education. It can also be completed separately, at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Early Childhood Education

Eastern Oregon University and the College of Education offer a non-licensure major in Early Childhood Education. The Early Childhood Education major is offered completely online and can be completed in as little as two years.

Graduate Reading Endorsement

EOU offers an online Literacy program at the graduate level. The program is available to licensed teachers who wish to add an endorsement to their license.

Special Educator Endorsement

Eastern Oregon University offers teachers who possess a teaching license the opportunity to pursue their Special Education endorsement.

Trauma in Educational Communities Experimental Specialization or Certificate

EOU offers the only Trauma in Educational Communities licensure experimental specialization in the state of Oregon.

Master of Science in Education with Dyslexia Concentration

Develop the knowledge and skills to identify, assess, and provide intervention for children at-risk for dyslexia and other reading disabilities.

Other program opportunities

For teachers who already hold a license, Eastern Oregon University offers courses of study that may lead to an additional endorsement and specialization.

Eastern Oregon offers certificates as an option for stand alone professional development.

Eastern Oregon University is offering courses for Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructors that meet the requirements of the Teacher Standards and Practices Oregon Administrative Rules for individuals who hold the CTE I license.

The Certificate and Associate of Arts (AA) in Education degrees are one and two-year programs, respectively, that are valuable for those seeking employment as educational assistants in K-12 education or for those working in early childhood settings.

Accreditation

Accredited Education Programs: Committing to quality standards and practices to ensure that students are prepared to move our communities forward.

The College of Education undergraduate and Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Initial licensure as well as other licensure endorsements are accredited by Oregon’s Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC).

Eastern Oregon University is a member in good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).  Eastern Oregon University is working toward accreditation of its educator preparation programs under the AAQEP standards with an anticipated Quality Assurance Review in spring 2021.
