Karyn Gomez earned her doctorate at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2005 and joined the faculty at EOU in 2006. Her research interests and presentations include literacy and teacher education. She was appointed as a Trustee on the Eastern Oregon University Board of Trustees for the 2020-2022 term. She has taught in the undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs, reading and literacy programs, and the Master of Science program in the College of Education. She also served as the Director of Educator Preparation for several years. Prior to her experience in higher education, she taught at the elementary level for 18 years in a variety of public and private schools in Washington and Texas. While on a leave from the University, she taught sixth grade at an international dual language school in Mexico.
