Teaching License Endorsements

For teachers who already hold a license, Eastern Oregon University offers courses of study that may lead to an additional endorsement or specialization.  These courses of study can be pursued as part of the Master of Science in Education program or on their own.

Environmental Education

The Eastern Oregon University College of Education is proud to introduce a new Certificate in Environmental Education, developed in direct response to Oregon’s Outdoor School Law (ORS 327.390). This forward-thinking program reflects Oregon’s commitment to ensuring that every student has access to meaningful outdoor learning experiences grounded in environmental literacy, stewardship, and applied science.

ESOL

The ESOL program (equal to a year of preparation) is designed for those seeking an endorsement in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at a graduate or undergraduate level.  Candidates may add this endorsement to a license by completing the course of study, including 60 clock hours of practicum, and obtaining a passing score on NES ESOL.

Reading

Eastern Oregon University’s Graduate Literacy program is designed to support those seeking the Reading Intervention endorsement to an Oregon license. Candidates may add this endorsement to a license by completing the reading program coursework, including 90 hours of practicum, and obtaining a passing score on a state-approved content exam.

Special Education

Eastern Oregon University offers teachers who possess a teaching license the opportunity to pursue their Special Education endorsement. Coursework in the endorsement program may be applied to a Master’s of Science degree in Education, or the endorsement can be pursued on its own.  The Special Educator endorsement is required to teach learners with disabilities in the state of Oregon.

Trauma in Educational Communities Experimental Specialization

The Trauma in Educational Communities program at Eastern Oregon University, designed for teachers with an Oregon license, is the only program in the state to offer a Trauma-Informed Practices Specialization program. This specialization indicates that an educator has obtained additional and specialized preparation to teach and advocate in a culturally responsive and equitable manner for the needs of prekindergarten through grade 12 students and other members of the educational community who have been impacted by trauma.
