EOU Foundation Scholarships

Scholarships are a great resource to help students pay for their education expenses and unlike loans, do not have to be repaid.  Hundreds of scholarships are awarded to students each year who meet specific qualifications, such as program of student, career goals, and others, designated by the private donor(s). 

EOU Foundation scholarships are for students enrolled in a degree programs at Eastern Oregon University.  The scholarship is applied toward your tuition and fees first and if there are remaining funds you can use them for expenses related to your educational needs, including textbooks.

Criteria for Applying: 

• Must be admitted or enrolled at Eastern Oregon University
• Completed the FAFSA

The EOU Foundation awards scholarships based on specific criteria established by the generous donors of individual scholarships.  Once students submit their application, they are automatically matched to all scholarships for which they are qualified.  The scholarship application requires a personal narrative essay be included as a way for application reviewers to evaluate and award applications.  The promise a student shows is defined as the circumstances a person has faced and/or accomplishments they have made, combined with their sense of direction and educational goals.

Each application is reviewed by volunteer reviewers, who score the application on a 0 to 100 scale for quality and completeness.  Reviewers will not see the applicant’s name, age, gender, race, etc.  

Scholarships are awarded to students with the greatest combined score as determined by their total application.

Due to the high volume of applications, the Foundation only notifies students who are selected to receive an award and does not notify those not selected.  Awarding is ongoing (as students move into different programs, no longer meet certain criteria, etc.), therefore students may be notified during different rounds of the awarding process. 

STEPS:

1. If you haven’t already, complete your application for admission to EOU.  You must be admitted or enrolled to apply for Foundation scholarships.  Grab your Student Aid Report (from your completed FAFSA).

2. Login to AwardSpring via the my.eou Portal.  The EOU Foundation scholarship application is open November 1 to March 1 each year.  

• Apply here:  https://eou.awardspring.com/SignIn/SAMLAuth
  • Your Username will be the first part of your EOU email address.

• Example: If your email address is Monty@eou.edu, your Username will be: Monty
• Your Password is the same password you use to open your student email account. 

3. Once you are logged in to AwardSpring

• Agree to Terms of Use and Privacy Policy
• From your Dashboard, click the Start Application button to begin filling out your application (start with the link in the left-hand corner for the general application, then complete the two ‘follow-up’ applications after!)
• Several sections/tabs make up the entire application. Complete all of them in order to submit your application.
  • Sections that are not completed will display “in progress”
  • Sections that are complete will display “completed”
• You can start and stop your application as needed

4. Prepare your essay

• Spend time on crafting a thoughtful narrative essay. Be sure to use your resources!  Have a trusted family/friend/teacher proofread, use spell check, search the internet for scholarship essay tips etc.

5. Submit your application

• Completing all tabs of your application will enable the Submit Application button in the lower right corner. Click it to submit your application.
• After completing and submitting the application, you can login to make needed changes until the deadline.

If you are selected for a scholarship, you must agree to the following:

• Must write a thank you letter to the donor of your scholarship (we provide you with this information)
• Must attend the Foundation’s donor recognition event in May (schedules dependent)
• Maintain satisfactory academic progress
• Have a FAFSA  on file with EOU each year 
• Check your EOU email account on a regular basis for information from the College and the Foundation
