Friday, Jan. 20th, 2023Do something really fun at the start of the term! Join us for an afternoon of snowshoeing up to the gorgeous Angell Basin in the Elkhorn Mountains near Anthony Lakes ski area. No experience necessary and the OAP can provide all winter clothing and gear. Transportation is provided.

Queer Night @ the Climbing Center in the Fieldhouse
Wednesday, 6-8pmCost – FREE
This is a great opportunity for LGBTQIA students to try out the sport of rock climbing in a safe indoor environment. We want to provide an inviting space that embraces the queer community. Folks will get personalized instruction on how to climb and belay from knowledgeable and helpful OAP staff. All equipment is provided.

OAP Sledfest 2023
Are you the fastest guy or gal on snow since penguins learned to fly? What? Penquins don’t fly? It doesn’t matter…because you’ll be having too much fun sledding your little hiney off. We’ll be going some place where there is enough snow to really get the sleds racing. No experience necessary to participate and the OAP can provide winter clothing and sleds. Transportation is provided.

11th Annual Eastern Oregon Backcountry Festival
We are so excited to be celebrating 11 years of glorious mountain culture in Eastern Oregon. This year we are bringing back the live music at the Starbottle Saloon for Saturday night. Bag of Hammers will be getting us dancing and swinging. We’ll continue to offer two avalanche snow safety clinics on Saturday taught by Wallowa Avalanche Center forecasters and the guided backcountry tour in the A-Lakes backcountry on Sunday. Also, our online fundraiser will have a ton of cool gear and local merchant prizes to auction off. So…come up to Anthony Lakes for a fantastic weekend of backcountry fun and support the Wallowa Avalanche Center and their mission of keeping people safe and riding on top.

Feb. 3, 2023 – Film Showing & Fundraiser @ HQ in downtown La Grande
We’ll be showing the award-wining documentary “Buried” that commemorates 40-years since the Alpine Meadows, CA avalanche disaster that killed 7 people. Along with showing the film we’ll have a raffle and pie auction event to raise funds for the WAC. Dust off the old family recipes or excite us with your phenomenal baking skills. We need pie donations galore! Expect great local brew, food, and vendors.
Saturday, Feb. 5th – Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort
8 a.m – Festivities start out with the Kip Rand Memorial Backcountry Race. Register HERE.
10 a.m. – Avalanche Companion Rescue Clinic at Anthony Lakes. (Meet at EOBF tent outside south of the rental shop)
1 p.m. – Avalanche Basics Clinic: snow profiles and stability tests in the AL backcountry.(Meet at EOBF tent south of the rental shop)
3 p.m. – Bag of Hammers at the Starbottle Saloon. Come dressed in your most outlandish outfit and prepare to dance your pants off!
Sunday, Feb. 6th – Elkhorn Mountains
9 a.m. – Self-organized free touring day in the Anthony Lakes backcountry. Join WAC forecasters on a tour of Angell Basin near A-Lakes. They’ll show you some helpful techniques for evaluating the local snowpack and good touring options. (Meet at EOBF tent south of the rental shop)
