We are lucky to have a beautiful lake just minutes from campus. Join us for an afternoon paddleboarding around the lake and soaking up the last of the late summer sunshine. All transportation and SUP equipment provided by the OAP. This includes life jackets and wetsuits if warranted.

Deschutes River Whitewater Rafting Weekend Adventure

Friday – Sunday, Oct. 14-16

Cost: $75 

Physical Activity Level: Easy

Join the OAP for a fun-filled weekend whitewater rafting trip on the lower Deschutes River near Maupin, OR. This is our BIG fall adventure where you’ll experience Class III rapids and gorgeous scenery. The river has great flows throughout the fall as it is dam fed from high above Bend. Meet new friends, camp out under the stars, and eat amazing food. We’ll camp for two nights and float the river on Saturday. Things don’t get much better than this!

No experience necessary. The fee covers food, outdoor equipment, and transportation. Space is limited, so sign up early.

Field House Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Facility Tour

Saturday, Oct. 22, 10:30am

Join us during Homecoming for a ribbon-cutting celebration of the opening of the new field house. The OAP facilities may not be completely open by then, but come check out the new climbing center and the indoor track space. It will get you stoked for when it’s all done and open to the public.

Access: Park in the Community Stadium parking lot and head east to the field house along G Street.


Rock Climbing at Spring Mountain

Friday, October 28, from 12-5pm

Cost: $5

Physical Activity Level: Moderate – Strenuous

Just over 1/2 hour from campus is a wonderland for rock climbers. Spring Mountain holds hundreds of routes on gorgeous Andesite basalt cliffs. The crag sports a generous mix of beginner to advanced terrain, so there is plenty for all skill levels to play on. No previous climbing experience needed. We’ll provide all the climbing equipment, transportation, and show you the ropes! Find out why eastern Oregon is a rock climbing paradise!

Hike to Van Patten Lake in the Elkhorns

Friday, Nov. 4, from 12-5pm

Cost: $5

Physical Activity Level: Moderate

Our university campus sits between three significant mountain ranges – the Wallowa, Blue, and Elkhorn mountains. This gives us ample opportunity to be true mountaineers and explore beautiful alpine terrain and high mountain lakes. Join us for a sweet 3-mile round trip hike to Van Patten Lake and check out the glorious fall colors before the snow flies.

The OAP will provide transportation and a knowledgeable guide to point out interesting details along the way.

Mountain Biking at MERA

Friday, November 18, from 1-4pm

Cost: FREE

Physical Activity Level: Moderate

Just out of town is a 3,000 acre community recreation area. Over the last decade a dedicated group of local volunteers have installed dozens of miles of wonderful trails for bikers, hikers, and equestrians. Hop on this adventure with the OAP and discover why MERA is such a mountain biking gem. We’ll bike 3 to 5 miles on the more mellow trails, so all abilities are welcome. Again, the OAP will supply the bikes, equipment, and transportation.
