Core competencies

Students must acquire and demonstrate a comprehensive competency in the foundational academic content of health and human performance. This is achieved by successfully mastering all the required HHP coursework specific to your selected degree concentration.

Students will develop and demonstrate discipline- and concentration-specific communication methods. This competency is reinforced through the successful completion of at least two designated University Writing Requirement (UWR) upper-division courses within the program.

Students will learn to apply fundamental discipline concepts directly to practical community health and exercise-based problems. This critical problem-solving capability is heavily integrated into key coursework.

Students will demonstrate the discipline-specific techniques required to ask, answer, and understand critical questions surrounding health, wellness, and human performance. This research-focused competency is developed in courses and advanced research capstones.

As a cumulative measure of your readiness for the field, students must demonstrate a thorough understanding of health and human performance concepts and the ability to communicate the essential elements of the discipline. This is achieved through a culminating program capstone course.
