Band on the Run: McCartney Strikes Back

We all remember The Beatles, right? Let’s see – there was John (the serious one) and George (the quiet one) and Ringo (the funny one) and Paul (the Rodney Dangerfield one). What? Let me explain briefly: Paul was the one who took the most heat from the critics early on after the Beatles broke up, except for maybe his debut solo effort, McCartney.

Let’s Jump

As I am writing this, I am sitting in a hotel room in Salem, waiting for our designated time to leave the hotel to head out to the state capital for the Oregon Student Association's rally

Yes, I’m stealing one from the recent C.E.A.D. conference here at EOU. Celebrate - Educate - Appreciate - MUSIC! I’ll explain the (I) a bit later.

I’m TALKING on the RADIO?!

When I was first thinking about becoming a KEOL DJ, there were two thoughts that filled me with great trepidation: What if my taste in music wasn't interesting enough, and what if I would be too terrified to send my voice over the airwaves? I considered my taste in music to be good enough for me, but certainly not up to music-snob standards.

Thank you, KEOL

At the Winter DJ Meeting, I asked the DJs to write a testimonial in regards to their experiences at KEOL. It was completely voluntary. Several have now turned those testimonials and blog posts. This week’s posts have definitely taken a turn, to talking about individuals’ journeys with KEOL, and how KEOL has shaped their lives.

Inflict, Don’t Acquiesce – 01

When I took the FM Broadcasting class in Winter 2013, I was initially under the impresion that it was about learning the workings of what went into radio - the mechanics, the equipment, and so forth. As an Ackerman kid whose time spent waiting for the third-to-last bus was sitting on the lawn just outside Pierce Library, I knew of the station...

How KEOL Changed My Life

I started at EOU Winter 2011 with no clue what I was doing, or what I wanted to do. What I did know was that I was sick of cooking other people’s food and doing their dishes. I mean, I can barely do that stuff on my own. As I was registering for classes my ex-boyfriend convinced me to take the FM broadcasting class.

Someone Saved My Life Tonight

You know how some people say that a song can bring back a thousand memories? While I am unsure about that number, I know there is one particular song I can tie to one particular memory in my life and to this day, every time I hear it, I recall this story.

The Wisconsin Dude’s Story

National Student Exchange is a great opportunity for all students that decide to apply and get into the program. That being said, it isn’t always what you expect. Here’s some backstory as to how I got involved with the program: I’m originally from a small town in Northern Wisconsin by the name of Rhinelander.

Blue Cupcakes with Green Sprinkles

This weekend is the Super Bowl. Generally, I don’t care about it. This will be the first time I actually watch it since coming to college. In fact, I am helping throw a Super Bowl party. The thing is though; I am not looking forward to the game, or the commercials, or the half-time performance.

The Big Three

Isn’t it funny how things seem to come in threes at times: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; three blind mice; the Three Stooges; three musketeers; three branches of government. I have another set of three I would like to talk about today: my picks for the three biggest influences on classic rock.

Why Not…?

In an interview last year, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson talked about the team taking up the mantra early in the year about going to the Super Bowl of “Why not us?” So why am I talking football and Super Bowl on a KEOL blog? Simply put: “Why not KEOL?”
