As I am writing this, I am sitting in a hotel room in Salem, waiting for our designated time to leave the hotel to head out to the state capital for the Oregon Student Association’s rally on affordable higher education.

Personally, I do not agree with OSA’s stance on some of the issues (they want a tuition freeze for students, but that really isn’t the best option for EOU); however, as a delegation from EOU, they have decided to lobby on Eastern Oregon issues. Essentially, I am the press, I am not here to lobby, I am just here relay the facts back to our side of the state. To my knowledge, this is the first time this has happened.

The remote broadcasting system has only ever made it as far as Boise. Right now, it is sitting in my bag at my feet, ready to rock and roll as I call into the Classic Rock Extravaganza and give my updates. We have done things similar to this, but it was only from Hoke Night at the Unions, or downtown La Grande during Small Business Saturday. So, this isn’t exactly new, but it is something new.

I don’t do good with throwing myself out there, I am fairly shy when I first meet people, so interviews have been a tough one for me to conqueor, it is hard for me to approach people. However, for today to be a success, I need to do that. Right now, I feel like I am on top of a high dive preparing myself to jump. It is something I know I can do, it just requires finding my courage, and my confidence.

This whole process of following the news and action is new to KEOL, and hopefully it is something that continues into the future. This entire year for me has been an experiment. Have an idea? Let’s try it! Sound plausible? Probably is, so let’s try!

My motto this year, one that I have to keep reminding myself about, is two words: Let’s Jump!
