Equipment Utilized in the Lab

The MOVE Lab uses advanced equipment to support student learning, student-led research, and supervised movement programming.

AMTI Force Plates

  • What it measures: Ground reaction forces during standing, walking, running, sprinting, jumping, landing, cutting, and other movement tasks. Data may include force production, loading rates, balance control, landing mechanics, asymmetries, and impact forces.
  • Common uses in the lab: Biomechanics assessments, injury risk and prevention projects, landing and jumping analysis, gait assessment, fatigue-related movement analysis, balance assessment, and performance-related movement testing.

OptiTrack 18-Camera Motion Capture System

  • What it measures: Three-dimensional body movement using reflective markers. Data may include joint motion, segment position, movement timing, range of motion, coordination patterns, and whole-body movement mechanics.
  • Common uses in the lab: Movement technique analysis, biomechanics, injury risk factors, sport performance, landing mechanics, gait assessment, dynamic balance, and functional movement analysis.

Delsys Trigno Wireless System

  • What it measures: Muscle activity using surface electromyography (EMG) and accelerometry, including timing and magnitude of muscle activation during movement, exercise, fatigue, and rehabilitation-style tasks.
  • Common uses in the lab: Neuromuscular control, muscle coordination, fatigue, movement efficiency, landing mechanics, climbing performance, gait, balance, obstacle navigation, and functional movement tasks.

Balance, Rehabilitation, and Physical Education Equipment

  • What it measures: Balance, coordination, gait, mobility, strength, flexibility, reaction time, functional movement, and physical activity participation.
  • Common uses in the lab: Coursework, supervised fitness programming, rehabilitation-style movement activities, dynamic balance, gait assessment, physical education activities, and applied exercise science instruction.
