MOVE Mission Statement
The MOVE Lab empowers Eastern Oregon University students and the regional community through applied exercise science, hands-on learning, movement assessment, student research, and accessible fitness programming. By integrating biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor learning, exercise programming, and functional movement assessment, the lab connects classroom learning with real-world movement, performance, fitness, and physical function.
- Master Applied Movement Across All Exercise Science Domains: Students translate theoretical concepts into real-world practice through lab-based analysis, movement instruction, and supervised community leadership.
- Drive Student Inquiry and Translational Research: Students transform original research questions into evidence-based solutions through experimental design, quantitative data interpretation, and scholarly dissemination.
- Build Proficiency with Advanced Movement Technologies: Students develop hands-on expertise using 3D optical motion capture, wireless EMG, wearable sensors, and force plates to analyze performance, mitigate injury risk, and optimize movement health.
Learning Outcomes
Students who participate in courses, research, internships, or volunteer experiences will be able to:
- Synthesize Multidisciplinary Principles: Synthesize core exercise science concepts across functional anatomy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control, and exercise programming to evaluate human movement, athletic performance, and physical function across diverse populations.
- Execute Advanced Data Acquisition: Capture, analyze, and critique complex human movement data by deploying advanced lab instrumentation, new technologies, force plates, and evidence-based field-testing protocols.
- Formulate Targeted Movement Interventions: Formulate, adapt, and prescribe evidence-informed exercise programming, modifying mechanics, intensity, and coaching strategies to optimize safety and performance for individuals and groups with varying movement abilities.
- Communicate Technical Science & Data: Articulate complex exercise science information across professional audiences, translating quantitative data and movement analysis into impactful coaching cues, scholarly presentations, written reports, and client recommendations.
- Bridge Academic Rigor with Career Mastery: Integrate applied research, lab leadership, and community fitness programming into professional preparation, leveraging hands-on experience to excel in graduate school programs and allied health careers.
