Assistant Professor of History

Ph.D., Stanford University in History

M.A., Stanford University in History

B.A., Harvard University in Social Studies

I teach and write about social and environmental change from the local to the planetary level.

My areas of focus include environmental history, U.S. history, Asian history, global history, Pacific World history, community-based history, Asian American history, commodity history, military history, and the role of American global power in shaping the modern world.

Making interdisciplinary connections and incorporating comparative perspectives are core to my practice as a scholar and teacher.

I am currently working on my first book project, tentatively titled American Choices in the Age of Global War and the Making of the Great Acceleration. I joined the EOU History Department in fall 2023. (Go Mountaineers!)

When I am not in the classroom or in the archive, I love to be outside hiking, running, foraging, gardening, or delving into a book beneath a tree.

You can schedule office hours and other meetings with me via Calendly— looking forward to meeting with you!

You can also reach me at pnauert@eou.edu or stop by my office at Ackerman 204C.
