The Outdoor Program at Eastern Oregon University began in the Fall of 1973 when non-credit backpacking classes were offered and the first outdoor equipment was purchased. The equipment rental program started out with an inventory of four sleeping bags, four pairs of snowshoes, four backpacks, two tents, two stoves, and two climbing ropes. Since 1973 the program has continued to provide opportunities for the EOU community to learn about and explore the incredible natural environment surrounding La Grande.Today the Outdoor Adventure Program, located in the Hoke Union Building (Room 118), oversees an equipment rental program that provides a wide range of outdoor adventure equipment at no cost to EOU students. The OAP also facilitates for-credit OUT classes, outdoor adventure skills clinics, guided trips, indoor rock climbing at the EOU Climbing Wall and hosts an extensive outdoor adventure resource library.
