Utopia in Print & Paint

Susan Murrell, Associate Professor of Art

I created an assignment for my screen printing and painting classes this fall term with help from senior art major Corrina Stadler, with the goal that she curate a thematic show for our annual paintings and prints exhibition at the downtown library. During class discussion it was apparent students realized one person’s utopia could easily become another person’s dystopia! So that was interesting. After coming up with concepts we asked that they start with a place, a landscape or interior space, to set the stage. Then identify a feeling they associate with their utopia and link it to a particular color scheme. These screen prints and acrylic paintings, among others, will be on display at the Cook Memorial Library from February 1st through March 22nd.
