2023 Teacher Tuition Remission Award

Teach Rural Oregon and the Eastern Oregon University College of Education are pleased to announce the selection of recipients for the Teach Rural Oregon Rural Teacher Tuition Remission Award.  This award, which ranges from $500 to $2,175 per academic year, provides financial assistance to teacher candidates who are enrolled in EOU’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and graduate SPED program who choose to teach in rural and underserved communities in Oregon.

Teach Rural Oregon is a partnership between the Wallowa County ESD and the EOU College of Education.  Funding for this financial assistance is provided through a Grow Your Own Grant from the Oregon Department of Education, and the Educator Advancement Council.  

The initial group of recipients includes 19 candidates from throughout the state of Oregon.  

They are:

  • Denise Adams, an instructor at Diamond School in Diamond, Oregon
  • Rochelle MacKerchar, an instructor at Haines Elementary School in Haines, Oregon
  • Garrett Beckman, an instructor at Imbler Jr/Sr High School in Imbler, Oregon
  • Mikayla Bredfield, an instructor at Irrigon Jr/Sr High School in Irrigon, Oregon
  • Robyn Burns, an instructor at Enterprise Elementary School in Enterprise, Oregon
  • Joanne Callaway,  an instructor at Gilcrest School in Gilcrest, Oregon
  • Tabitha Kopf, an instructor at Myrtle Creek Elementary School in Myrtle Creek, Oregon
  • David Garcia Coria, an instructor at Clara Brownell Middle School in Umatilla, Oregon
  • Joseph Daugherty, an instructor at Elgin Jr/Sr High School in Elgin, Oregon
  • Courtney Davis, an instructor at Umatilla High School in Umatilla, Oregon
  • Erin Friedrichsen, an instructor at Crane High School in Crane, Oregon
  • Ashton Haughton, an instructor at Union Elementary School in Union, Oregon
  • Jalaina Jacobsen, an instructor at Elgin Jr/Sr High School in Elgin, Oregon
  • Toby Matthews, an instructor at AD Hay Elementary School in Lakeview, Oregon
  • Jose Ortiz, an instructor at Irrigon Jr/Sr High School in Irrigon, Oregon
  • Josh Roberts, an instructor at Riverside High School in Boardman, Oregon
  • Andrew Rygg, an instructor at Lakeview High School in Lakeview, Oregon
  • Grace Schwendiman, an instructor at Cove High School in Cove, Oregon
