You are automatically considered for Incoming freshman awards with your EOU application. Other awards are available for transfer, returning and continuing students.

Remember: to receive EOU Awards you must have a current FAFSA on file.

Incoming Freshman Awards


University Scholar Award

A renewable scholarship for new freshmen up to $12,000 over four years (i.e. up to $3,000 per year).  No SAT or ACT scores are required, but you must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative, high school GPA to qualify.  Awarded until funds are exhausted on a first-come-first-served basis based on your EOU application date.  Mutually exclusive with University Scholar Athlete Award.

University Scholarly-Need Award

A renewable scholarship for new freshmen up to $6,000 over four years (i.e. up to $1,500 per year).  You must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative, high school GPA and a maximum FAFSA SAI of 20,000.  Awarded until funds are exhausted on a first-come-first-served basis based upon your EOU and FAFSA application dates.

University Scholar Excellence & Access Award

Beginning in 2026-27, the University Scholar and University Scholarly-Need Awards will be combined into one award: the University Scholar Excellence & Access Award. The award amount will vary dynamically based on your GPA and FAFSA SAI, but will align with the previous matrices, maintaining the same minimum and maximum award amounts (i.e., up to $18,000 over four years). Use the estimator below to calculate your potential first-year award. This scholarship renews each year for a total of four years, provided you complete 45 credits annually and maintain a GPA within the eligible range.


University Achievement Award

A renewable scholarship for new freshmen up to $3,500 over four years (see schedule).  No SAT or ACT scores are required, but you must have a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative, high school GPA or a GED score of at least 660 to qualify.  Awarded throughout the freshman application cycle, but does not stack with University Scholar, University Scholarly Need, or University Scholar Athlete Awards.  The Transfer & Returning Student Success or Continuing Student Success Awards also cannot be awarded simultaneously with a University Achievement Award.

University Scholar Athlete Award

A renewable scholarship for new freshmen student athletes up to $12,000 over four years (i.e. up $3,000 per year) in place of a University Scholar Award when funding for that has been exhausted.  No SAT or ACT scores are required, but you must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative, high school GPA to qualify.  Applications are submitted by your coach.  Please contact him or her to submit on your behalf.  Mutually exclusive with University Scholar Award.

EOU 4-County Housing Award

$500 toward first year on-campus housing.  Must be a resident of Union, Wallowa, Baker or Umatilla counties.


You must actively apply for application based awards, which are awarded to qualified individuals on a first-come-first-served basis.  Deadlines vary. Links to each award application are provided in the award description below.

Transfer & Returning Student Success Award

A renewable award for new undergraduate transfer students and returning undergraduate EOU students up to $7,500 over three years (i.e. up to ~ $833 per term or $2,500 per regular academic year) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.  Currently active EOU students are eligible for the Continuing Student Success Award, but not this one.

Continuing Student Success Award

A renewable award up to $6,000 over three years (i.e. up to $2,000 per year) for active undergraduate EOU students not receiving other EOU awards with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Student Access & Engagement Scholarship

Purpose. To enhance access to education for all students at EOU by recognizing applicants who help peers navigate college and engage with student success resources. The award is open to all on-campus students.

Who should apply
  • Students who like helping classmates learn how to find and use campus resources.
  • Students with strong communication skills who can lead short sessions or create practical guides.
  • Students who plan to make a positive, measurable contribution to the EOU campus community.
Eligibility
  • Admitted to an on-campus degree program at EOU.
  • Enrolled full time (12+ cr. hrs.).
  • In good academic standing.
Access engagement requirement

Recipients complete at least one peer-focused activity during the award year that promotes access to education for all students. Examples include:

  • Hosting a scholarship writing or application workshop.
  • Leading a short session on finding financial aid, tutoring, advising, or career services.
  • Creating a step-by-step guide or checklist for a common process and sharing it with new students.
  • Partnering with an academic department or student support office to present a how-to session.

Activities should be practical, open to all students, and coordinated with a relevant campus office when appropriate.

What reviewers look for
  • A clear, feasible plan for your access activity, including timeline and expected outcomes.
  • Evidence you can deliver the activity presentation experience, writing sample, or similar.
  • How the activity will be shared widely for example, through a department, residence hall, or first-year course.
  • A concise, well written personal statement.
Award amount
  • Amounts vary by year and available funds. Check the scholarship portal for the current cycle.
  • You must apply each year to be reconsidered for the next year.
  • Number of awards varies.
How to apply
  1. Complete the EOU Foundation Scholarship application.
  2. Select that you want to apply for the Student Access & Engagement Scholarship.
  3. Submit a 100 to 600 word essay that includes: your proposed access activity, timeline, and how you will share it with other students.
  4. List relevant experience such as leading workshops, tutoring, mentoring, or creating student resources.
Timeline

Applications typically open in October and close in early March. Always confirm dates in the scholarship portal for the current year.

Math Education Scholarship Award

MESA is a scholarship program designed to help bring capable, undergraduate students to EOU to pursue Bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and to be prepared for entry into the Masters of Teaching/Teacher Licensure program in the College of Education. The MESA Program is designed specifically for Undergraduate students that are interested in becoming a secondary school mathematics teacher. Eastern Oregon secondary schools need well trained teachers to offer the higher level math curriculum now required of all schools by the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics. EOU has the capacity to produce more teachers from its programs and the MESA scholarship program will help bring students into EOU mathematics and teacher education programs. Scholarship awards will range from $2,000 to $4,000 per year and may be renewed annually until graduation.

Phi Theta Kappa Mountaineer Award

One time $1,000 award for undergraduate Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society members with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Deadline:  prior to the first day of your first term at EOU.

Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative and EOU Rural Scholarship

$5,000 for OTEC members, or the spouse or legal dependent of an active OTEC member, from Baker, Grant, Harney, and Union counties.  PLUS, EOU will cover remaining tuition and fee costs using tuition waivers resulting in full tuition and fee coverage for the academic year for OTEC scholarship awardees.

New freshman planning to attend EOU must apply through OTEC directly beginning November 1.
