Historic and cultural resource assessments are designed to provide information on whether or not a project will impact or affect buildings, structures, sites, or districts that are listed as historical. In the specific area that we studied, the people had a very rich history connecting to their landscape, which offered great opportunities to engage in heritage, arts, humanities, and tourism. We focused on historic properties and sites and what these sites have to offer tourists as well as locals. We also included information on preservation programs in place, public education that is offered, and information on public or historic records and photo archives.

Looking to local sources for this information would be most reliable for the people who live in cities have first hand knowledge. Doing this for the area of your proposed trail will be beneficial. Knowing historical and cultural sites will protect you from potential damage.
