The Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and the minors in Mathematics or Statistics at EOU provide coursework in analysis, algebra, discrete mathematics, math modeling, statistics and probability, and individual research preparing students to be part of a society that values the power and beauty of mathematics and fully realizes its potential to promote human flourishing. Recent EOU graduates with degrees in math have had success in graduate programs at schools such as Oregon State, Washington State, Boise State, and the University of Idaho. Many have gone on to have successful careers as high school mathematics teachers and others have found employment with such companies as Meta, Oregon Health Sciences University, Kaiser-Permanente, and Blue-Cross Blue-Shield.
Dr. Tanner has taught mathematics and statistics at EOU for over 20 years. His research interests include probability, game theory, and optimal stopping problems. He currently helps organize the Faculty Colloquium and Spring Symposium at EOU. When not working on math problems he can be found playing the french horn with a variety of community musical groups.
