March 24, 2020 – Voicemail and phone instructions when working from home

Voicemail and phone settings while working remotely

As you prepare to work from home, consider updating the outgoing message on your desk phone so external callers know you are working remotely.

The following templates for voicemail messages are available for departments and individuals to customize and use. We appreciate everyone following a standard format to convey consistent messaging to students and external constituents who may be trying to reach us during this time.

General Voicemail Script:

Thank you for calling the office of (office or department name) at Eastern Oregon University. We are currently working remotely in response to the coronavirus outbreak, and may not be able to check missed calls regularly. Please contact us at (department email) or leave a voice message. In case of an emergency please contact Campus Security at 541-962-3911. Thank you.

Individual Voicemail Script:

Hi! This is (name) in (office or department name) at Eastern Oregon University. I am currently working remotely in response to the coronavirus outbreak, and may not be able to check missed calls regularly. Please contact me at (employee email) or leave a voice message. For information about how to update your outgoing message, forward your desk phone to a cell phone, and check voicemails remotely, reference this Knowledge Base article from the EOU IT Department: https://kb.eou.edu/topic/phone

Don’t forget to change your cell phone voicemail if you decide to use call-forwarding, and consider updating the phone number in your email signature while working remotely.

Thank you,
