Dr. Fields began his academic career in 2009 as an adjunct, teaching one computer technology course, while working full-time.  Over the next few years he taught as an adjunct, or part-time, for up to 5 colleges or universities simultaneously, some semesters having a course load of 6 or 7 classes.  In 2013, he took a full-time assistant professor and program manager of business position at NMSU Grants.  Prior to and since arriving at EOU in 2015 he has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses on a wide range of business, management and leadership topics.  Dr. Fields is also a Faculty Advisor to our chapter of the International Honor Society Sigma Beta Delta, a leading honor society for business, recognizing, celebrating, and promoting undergraduate and graduate student achievement in business, management, and administration.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Fields has maintained an active research agenda, including his dissertation on the impact of precollege characteristics, the college experience, and study abroad on students’ intercultural competence.  He is currently leading the “Cultural Mentoring Project” that places international students as cultural mentors with domestic students as a conduit for cultural exchange conversations.

In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Fields has been active in coaching youth sports.  He coaches football, basketball, baseball and softball.  Outside of work he enjoys time with his wife and 5 children usually at the sports fields/courts, or when they can get away, travelling or camping.
