LA GRANDE, Ore. – Oregon hunters have a rare opportunity to win a coveted bull elk hunt on the renowned Zumwalt Prairie Preserve, thanks to a partnership between The Nature Conservancy and Eastern Oregon University’s Speel-Ya Native American Student Council. Proceeds from the raffle will support student educational opportunities at EOU.
The Zumwalt Prairie Preserve, located in northeast Oregon, is one of the largest remaining intact native prairies in North America. Portions of the preserve are open to the public, but the property is privately owned and managed to protect its diverse and sensitive species. The U.S. Department of the Interior has designated 4,400 acres of the preserve as a National Natural Landmark.
Each year, TNC donates four bull elk and two buck deer Landowner Preference (LOP) tags to non-profit organization raffles, raising nearly $900,000 for various groups across Oregon.
The Speel-Ya Native American Student Council will raffle one of these exclusive LOP bull elk tags on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 4 p.m. inside the Hoke Union Building on the campus of Eastern Oregon University. Only 300 tickets will be available for purchase at $100 each.
The winner must be an Oregon resident and at least 18 years old.
The winning hunter will receive a three-day guided hunt in the fall of 2025 on the 33,000-acre Zumwalt Prairie Preserve and may bring up to two guests during their hunt.
This raffle presents an incredible opportunity for hunters while supporting EOU students through the Speel-Ya Native American Student Council’s mission to promote Indigenous culture, education, and community engagement.
For more information or to purchase raffle tickets, please contact Speel-Ya Native American Council at 541-962-3463 or raffle@eou.edu.
