Student Mentor for Cottonwood Crossing Summer Institute

Four positions available. The student mentor position is an on site/off campus week long intensive paid internship located at Cottonwood Canyon State park. The student mentors will serve as a teaching assistant to an EOU professor during a week-long intensive study with high school students in the field of either Geology, Neuroscience, Writing, or Natural Resources in the form of riparian restoration. Students hired for this position are responsible for transporting themselves to and from Cottonwood Canyon State Park. Hirees will camp out at Cottonwood Canyon State park and all meals are provided. Students are required to bring their own camping and personal equipment. For example: Tent, sleeping bag, adequate clothing for outdoor activities and sleeping inside a tent, toiletries, water bottle, etc. All meals and snacks provided however students are welcome to bring their own snacks as well. The student mentor will shadow an EOU Professor as they teach outdoor courses to high school students from the surrounding area. Students will serve as liaison between the EOU Professor and high school students. Hirees will be provided with CPR training as they will be working with minors in an outdoor setting.

ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities:
● Work with EOU Professors to coordinate daily workshop activities and final projects
● Assist in managing outdoor classes
● Assist in meal prep, cooking and cleaning
● Coordinate with other student mentors on scheduling and activities
● Attend meetings with external partners as needed
● Gather information and provide summaries as needed
Minimum Qualifications● In good academic standing and enrolled in 6-9 credit hours
● Ability to spend large sections of time outdoors
● Camping/fishing/hiking experience
Preferred Qualifications● Experience working with youth
● Experience camping and hiking
● Ability to assist with teaching
