LA GRANDE, Ore. – EOU’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is ten months (4 terms), beginning in the Summer term and extending through the following Spring term. The program is a hybrid format. Candidates will attend a residency week in late July-early August, hosted on EOU’s La Grande campus. Throughout the remainder of the program, candidates will participate in hybrid classes, which have regularly scheduled synchronous meetings using a remote platform. The hybrid format of the program allows candidates to come from across the Pacific Northwest.
The field experience/student teaching aspect of the program begins in August and continues throughout the entire year. This allows students to get extensive classroom experience.
While the program is designed to be completed in 10 months, there is an option to complete the program over two academic years (July 2024 through June 2026). This is a great alternative for candidates who are teaching on a restricted license or would like to slow down the pace for other reasons.
We offer cohorts in Elementary and Secondary Ed, through the MAT program. You can review the prerequisites and subject area endorsements available at the links below.

The MAT program results in a master’s degree and a teaching license. It is a very efficient way to earn both an advanced degree, as well as a teaching license.
