March 2, 2021 La Grande, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University showcases its permanent collection in a gallery exhibit running now through April 7.
Open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, the gallery welcomes only on-campus students, faculty and staff due to campus health and safety measures. Masks are required for entry to the gallery and social distancing will be enforced with limited numbers of patrons admitted at a time.
“The exhibit will give viewers a glimpse into the diverse collection of objects and images that make up the EOU permanent collection,” Gallery Director Cory Peeke said.
The collection features a selection of works by artists with ties to the region. Pieces by George Nightingale, Betty Feves, Fred Hill, Don Gray, Kat Galloway, David DeVillier, Malcolm Phinney and Doug Kaigler will be on view.
“The university’s collection is varied and features a rich assortment of prints by some of the biggest names in art history, including works by Pierre Bonnard, Salvador Dali and Robert Indiana, among others,” Peeke said.
Work by EOU alumni will also be on view, including paintings and drawings by Devin Farrand, James Long and Kevin Layton, as well as sculptures by Lauren Hull and Alec Schramek.
The conservation and acquisition of works for the university collection are made possible by the small commission the Nightingale Gallery realizes from selling exhibited artworks.
“The EOU collection represents decades of eclectic acquisition and will present gallery goers an array of works in a variety of media by a broad selection of highly skilled artists,” Peeke said.
See the exhibit through Wednesday, April 7, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
