Course Scheduling Guidelines
The basic assumption is that there will be a ten-minute break inserted into any course that runs for longer than an hour.
Five-credit courses:
- Overall guideline: five-credit courses meet for at least 250 minutes a week according to the following:
- Daily for 50 minutes each day.
- MWF for 90 minute sessions with courses running from:
- 8:20 a.m. – 9:50 a.m.,
- 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.,
- 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. or at any time after 5:00 p.m.
- We recommend that five-credit courses meeting three times a week not be scheduled for 10:00 a.m. – 11:20 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. since these times would overlap and conflict with 4-credit courses scheduled two or four times per week.
- Twice a week for 2:30 minutes session as long as the course begins after 5:00 p.m.
Four-credit courses:
- Overall policy: four-credit course meet for at least 200 minutes per week according to the following:
- Four-credit courses meeting for 50 minute sessions will be scheduled MTRF.
- Four-credit courses taught in two, 100 minute sessions would begin at 8:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. [The starting time in the evening ought to remain as flexible as possible.]
- We recommend that four-credit courses taught twice a week will be scheduled TR as room availability allows.
Three-credit courses
- Three-credit courses taught three times a week will be scheduled MWF.
- Three-credit courses taught twice a week will be scheduled on TR for 90 minutes:
- 8:20 a.m. – 9:50 a.m.,
- 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.,
- 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. or
- at any time after 5:00 p.m.
Two-credit courses
- Two-credit courses taught twice a week will be scheduled TR in 50 minute sessions.
- Two-credit courses taught in one, 100 minute block will be scheduled on either T or R, or after 3:00 p.m.
