LA GRANDE, Ore. – On April 3, Oregon Humanities will host an onstage conversation addressing the crisis of poverty, addiction, and homelessness in communities across America. Renowned journalist Eli Saslow, from the New York Times, will lead the discussion.
While the event will take place at the Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland it will be live streamed for free on YouTube. Additionally, Oregon Humanities will host a live screening of the conversation at HQ, located at 112 Depot Street in La Grande, starting at 7 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions for Saslow during the event.
Eli Saslow’s journalistic endeavors have garnered him two Pulitzer Prizes for his coverage of issues such as food insecurity and homelessness. His recent work has focused on the impact of homelessness, substance abuse, and mental illness in cities like Portland, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, and San Diego.
This conversation is part of Oregon Humanities’ Consider This series, an annual program that fosters dialogue on challenging issues.
The event is made possible through support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the United We Stand: Connecting Through Culture initiative, the Oregon Cultural Trust, the Susan Hammer Fund of Oregon Community Foundation, The Standard, Tonkon Torp LLP, the City of Portland’s We Are Better Together program and Eastern Oregon University.
