LA GRANDE, OR – Eastern Oregon University proudly announces its recognition as a Five-Star Silver winner in the Champions of Character® Five-Star Award by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. This prestigious acknowledgment shines a light on the commitment of Mountaineer Athletics to exemplify character-driven sportsmanship.
The NAIA unveiled the award recipients on Tuesday, with the Cascade Collegiate Conference standing tall as eight of its member institutions garnered accolades. Northwest University, Bushnell University, College of Idaho, Corban University, Lewis-Clark State College, Walla Walla University, and Warner Pacific University join EOU as esteemed institutions representing the CCC. As a result, the CCC has been honored with the Five-Star Conference recognition, highlighting the collective efforts of its schools in championing character in athletics.
The Champions of Character scorecard annually evaluates NAIA schools based on their dedication to character-driven athletics. The criteria revolve around character training, sportsmanship during competitions, academic emphasis, recognition of character, and its promotion. Particular attention is paid to institutions that record exceptional student-athlete GPA’s and showcase impeccable behavior, marked by minimal to zero ejections during the entire academic year’s competitions.
Eastern Oregon University’s commitment to fostering a holistic athletic environment, where character and excellence go hand-in-hand, remains unwavering. The Mountaineers are not only champions on the field but also champions of character.
