Mountaineer Success Team Program

Mountaineer Success Team Program

What is the Mountaineer Success Team Program?

In the fall of 2024 Eastern Oregon University (EOU) launched a new student success initiative designed to enhance student support and engagement called the Mountaineer Success Team Program (MSTP). The MSTP provides a coordinated approach to ensuring that all students have access to the resources and relationships they need in order to succeed at EOU.

MSTP integrates existing student support services by connecting academic advisors, faculty, mentors, athletic coaches, multicultural leaders, success guides and more into a unified network. Through this initiative, students have access to their own personalized Success Team, making it easier than ever to find guidance, schedule appointments, seek resources, and navigate university life.

How MSTP Benefits Students:

  • Personalized Guidance: Each student is connected to a dedicated Success Team.
  • Seamless Access to Support: Students can schedule meetings with advisors, mentors, and coaches directly through the EOU portal.
  • Enhanced Campus Engagement: MSTP encourages students to get involved and build their sense of belonging at EOU.

Mountaineer Success Team Roles

Success Guides

Success Guides provide students with opportunity and encouragement to connect to campus resources and to raise awareness about possibilities for personal growth. Success Guides help by encouraging students to learn, grow, and get more involved in the campus community. Success Guides support an environment in which students are more likely to succeed through respect, understanding and engagement.

Academic Advisors

Academic advisors are your primary resource for academic knowledge, experience and insight. Academic advising is a collaborative relationship built to develop meaningful educational goals consistent with your personal interests, values and abilities. Academic advisors help guide you through your educational journey and university systems. Advisors ensure you are on track to earn a degree and work with you to overcome challenges.

Benefits Navigator

The Benefits Navigator connects students with essential resources like food, housing, healthcare, and transportation. It also provides guidance on benefits such as SNAP and the Oregon Health Plan (OHP). Through partnerships with community organizations and businesses, the program ensures students receive the support they need to thrive. The Benefits Navigator assists you with services and connections so you can focus on academic and personal success.

Faculty Mentors

Each academic program at EOU offers their student majors an opportunity to be mentored by faculty members at critical points in their academic journey to provide personalized support and guidance. Faculty mentorship focuses on career guidance, skill development, and holistic support outside of academic advising. Activities may include career exploration, internship and job search support, professional skill development, research opportunities, referrals to support services, etc..

Athletics Support

Athletic Support handles academic success as well as NAIA and EOU athletic eligibility for each student athlete. Supports the physical, emotional, social, and mental development of student-athletes through a robust system of care and support.

Sport Coaches

Sport Coaches handle all aspects of their respective sports’ program, as well as managing day-to-day operations of the team. This includes: Coaching & Player Development, Recruiting, Academic Support & Student-Athlete Welfare, Community Engagement & Program Promotion, and Game Planning & Management.

Summer Bridge Mentors

Summer Bridge mentors welcome and help orient Summer Bridge students to the university, getting to know new students and helping build a supportive, inclusive campus environment. They mentor new students, helping students build connections to other students, faculty, and staff and sharing experiences, strategies, and lessons learned their first year on campus. Summer Bridge mentors serve as strong and reliable role models to incoming students.

Success Coaches

The Online Success Coach provides general support to help students navigate being an online student. Success Coaches can help students understand university resources, provide important reminders, complete general check-ins, and navigate challenges.

Multicultural Advisors

A Multicultural Advisor provides culturally responsive guidance to students from historically underserved backgrounds, that includes academic and transitional support as well as a sense of belonging. By promoting belonging and equity, they create an inclusive environment that ensures all students have the opportunity to succeed and reach their fullest potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.
