External Scholarship Search Sites

When researching sources of college funding, students are encouraged to seek out sources that provide free services and information, such as those you might find through the search engines and curated listings linked below. Eastern Oregon University does not endorse any for-profit scholarship search service.

While we have made a good faith effort to ensure that these websites appear to be legitimate, they are not our websites and we are not responsible for the content of their sites. Many students are falling prey to scholarship and financial aid scams. According to the Federal Trade Commission, unscrupulous companies guarantee or promise scholarships, grants or financial aid packages. Many use high pressure sales pitches at seminars where you’re required to pay immediately or risk losing out. Some unscrupulous companies guarantee that they can get scholarships on behalf of students or award them “scholarships” in exchange for an advance fee.

The FTC cautions students to look and listen for these lines as signs of possible scams:

“The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back.”
“You can’t get this information anywhere else.”
“I just need your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship.”
    “We’ll do all the work.”
“The scholarship will cost some money.”
“You’ve been selected” by a “national foundation” to receive a scholarship or “You’re a finalist” in a contest you never entered.

The FTC works to prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop and avoid them. Visit ftc.gov or call toll-free at 1-877-382-4357.

“Many students want to attend college, but their parents have been unable to save enough money to ensure they can attend the college of their choice. However, that doesn’t mean it’s an impossible dream to attend the college of your dreams. It does take more effort to find scholarships that can make up any shortfall in funds for school but it’s worth it in the end.”
