LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University has earned approval from the Oregon Department of Education to provide professional development and coaching for districts receiving Early Literacy Success School District Grant funding. This recognition highlights the university’s ongoing efforts to enhance literacy education for young learners.
The initiative is led by Dr. Ronda Fritz and Mrs. Jess Hagedorn through the Eastern Oregon Reading Clinic. The clinic serves students from preschool to third grade, offering tutoring in flexible formats, including in-person and virtual options. Tutoring sessions are tailored to individual needs and available during the school day, before or after school, and in the summer.
Qualified tutors include teacher candidates, college students, and community members, all dedicated to improving literacy skills. Under the clinic’s guidance, these tutors work to help children meet critical reading benchmarks and foster long-term academic success.
“Approval to support this statewide program reaffirms our commitment to building literacy in Oregon’s communities,” Fritz said. “We are excited to continue partnering with school districts to provide meaningful professional development and resources.”
The Eastern Oregon Reading Clinic’s work aligns with the university’s mission to serve rural areas and advance educational opportunities across the state. For more information, visit www.eou.edu/reading-clinic or contact Dr. Ronda Fritz at rfritz@eou.edu.
Eastern Oregon University is proud to play a role in shaping a brighter future for young learners through its dedication to literacy and education.
