LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University’s Health and Human Performance program is “picking up the pace” for a community health class project. This semester, the students revived the free walking program for adults in the community of La Grande, under the direction of Dr. Kelly McNeil.
Walk for LIFE – Learn, Interact, Fun, Exercise is a free fourteen-week program aimed at increasing physical activity to reduce chronic disease, improve quality of life through social interaction, and reduce stress levels. The walking program will be hosted at EOU’s Field House and encourages community members, faculty, staff, and other students to use the facility. Each session includes free coffee, conversation and of course walking.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to come to see the field house, get some physical activity, and meet new people,” said McNeil. “In addition, you can help provide community health students hands-on experience in designing, implementing and evaluating a community health program.”
Walk for LIFE kicks off on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and will occur every Tuesday and Thursday through March 14 from 6 a.m to 8 a.m. Come join us to learn how walking can increase your quality of life, meet new people, and enjoy free coffee.
