LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University Board of Trustees unanimously approved three actions Wednesday which allow the university to move forward in its search for a new president.
The board approved a Presidential Profile compiled by Dr. Dick Merriman, of Summit Search Solutions. The profile describes the university and the attributes being sought in EOU’s next president as well as challenges and opportunities. The profile will be used to market the position to potential candidates during the search process.
To develop the profile, Merriman met with a wide variety of university stakeholders and conducted an online survey. Merriman said it was important to those he met with that a candidate understands EOU serves rural Oregon, that the institution is rooted in the region it serves, and candidates need to be well prepared and credentialed.
“It really hits the spot in a lot of ways,” EOU Trustee Maurizio Valero said, speaking of the profile. “It’s colorful, comprehensive and does the job.”
Trustee Anna Cavinato noted the profile is, “a full reflection of the input of the campus.”
Also, the board reviewed and unanimously approved a general list of presidential duties to be used in the next presidential contract. Summit Search Solutions will share the list with candidates who request more information about the job responsibilities.
In a third unanimous vote the board approved a salary range of $275,000 to $350,000 to be listed in the Presidential Profile and in advertising related to the position.
