LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University is excited to host a colloquium titled “The Instructional Value of Digital Storytelling with WeVideo.” This event, set to illuminate the educational landscape, is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, at 4 p.m. in Ackerman 210.
Digital storytelling, a creative and engaging method that combines the art of telling stories with digital multimedia, such as images, audio, and video, has been a transformative tool in educational settings. The upcoming colloquium delves deep into this topic.
“Digital storytelling has been recognized as an innovative practice in teaching and learning, WeVideo is a system that can help EOU faculty to implement digital storytelling in their classes. Dr. Slinkard and I hope that this Colloquium presentation will help EOU instructors to think about how they might be able to use digital storytelling, or other creative teaching practices, in their own courses,” Professor Aaron Thornburg said.
In the 2023 Spring Term, Professors Jennifer Slinkard and Aaron Thornburg pioneered the integration of digital storytelling in their curriculum, utilizing WeVideo, a versatile online video editing platform. Their innovative approach culminated in digital story final assignments, providing students with a unique avenue for expression and learning.
To gauge the impact of this method, an online survey was conducted at the term’s end. This survey aimed to capture students’ insights on the efficacy of WeVideo as an educational tool. The upcoming colloquium will present the findings, shedding light on the potential benefits and challenges of incorporating digital storytelling in both lower- and upper-division university courses.
We cordially invite educators, students, and enthusiasts in the field of digital education to join us for this presentation. The insights shared will be invaluable for anyone interested in the intersection of technology and education.
Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the dynamic world of digital storytelling and its role in shaping modern education. Mark your calendars and be a part of this engaging and informative event. For more details and to register for the colloquium, please visit our website at https://www.eou.edu/colloquium/.
