LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University’s trapshooting team traveled to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the ACUI / SCTP National Championship where they finished 4th in their Division, placed 2nd in Trap Doubles, and 3rd in Trap.
The ACUI / SCTP National Championship was a 5-day event that had over 750 students compete from 74 colleges and 29 states.
“This is EOU’s highest finish in nationals and in five short years, we have gone from being a newcomer to beating teams with over a 50-year history in the sport,” said Assistant Coach Kathryn Shorts
Elias Tollefson, EOU’s first All-American Athlete, took home a National Champion title in the Sporting Clays event and received the All-American honors for shooting with an impressive score of 558 targets out of 600. Brett Troutman missed the All-American honors by 4 targets but had an impressive shoot, hitting 541 out of 600. Brett was the team’s top trapshooter scoring 99 out of 100 targets. Emilee Freeman finished 3rd in the Women’s Skeet Doubles B Class.
“EOU ‘s team remains the top performer on the West Coast,” said Shorts. “We finished 15th High Over All out of 74 schools, 4th in our division beating much larger schools including Arizona State, Colorado State, Florida State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, University of Wyoming, and Virginia Tech as well as many others.”
