Alysia Cohen is an Assistant Professor in the Health and Human Performance Department. She brings a diverse academic and clinical experience background in K-12 physical education, public health, and exercise science, including athletic training and strength and conditioning. Dr. Cohen has over 25 years of combined clinical experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist working in youth sports, high school, collegiate, and professional sports settings. She has served as a teacher and athletic trainer in the high school setting. Since completing her doctoral degree in Physical Activity and Health, Dr. Cohen has brought her interprofessional expertise and passion for learning to the college setting, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in areas of teacher education, exercise science, athletic training, and public health. Dr. Cohen actively engages in research in areas of sport psychology and sports performance, such as burnout in youth sports athletes. More recently, her research has expanded to studying burnout among students and allied health care workers and psychological interventions for reducing anxiety, depression, and stress among these populations to enhance job satisfaction and personal health, including reduced risk of long-term chronic conditions. Beyond the academic setting, Dr. Cohen enjoys spending time with her family outside exploring the mountains, including mountain biking, hiking, and skiing.
