Theater Technical Assistant

The Theater Technical Assistant position offers hands-on experience in the technical and organizational side of theater production. Students will work in a collaborative environment, support live events, and gain backstage knowledge while building skills useful in both creative and professional fields.

Job Duration Academic Year 2025–2026. Not expected to work during enrollment breaks unless otherwise arranged.
Type of work schedule Flexible schedule – agreed upon. Evenings and weekends may be required for performances or events. General availability during afternoons preferred.
Estimated numbers of hours per week10–15 hours (up to 19 during the academic term).
Experiential Learning:Students will learn the technical and organizational workings of a theater and scenic shop, gaining real-world experience in event setup, backstage management, and facility maintenance.
Professional Development:Students will develop strong organizational skills, teamwork, and accountability through regular collaboration and supervision. This role also introduces students to industry-relevant operations in performance arts and live event production.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:– Assist with set up and tear down of events in theater spaces
– Label, sort, and organize storage and backstage areas
– Clean and maintain theater and backstage spaces
– Work closely with supervisor and staff to support technical needs
Minimum Qualifications:– Enrolled EOU student in good standing
– Work Study eligibility
Preferred Qualifications:– Interest in theater operations or event production
– Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
– Willingness to learn technical tasks and follow safety procedures
