Food Pantry Social Media Coordinator

Students will be a part of a great team mission to address food and basic needs insecurity on
campus by using their creativity and communication skills to connect peers with valuable
resources. This role offers a unique blend of digital marketing, outreach, and direct service through the campus food pantry. They will have the opportunity to manage social media, create engaging content, support program/department events, and help students feel welcomed and informed. With flexible hours, hands-on experience, and the opportunity to be the voice of a meaningful campus initiative, students will grow professionally while making a difference in the lives of other Mountaineers.

Experiential Learning:The Experiential Learning component for students working as the Social Media Coordinator involves hands-on, practical experiences they gain while applying theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. This kind of learning develops not only technical skills but also soft skills and professional competencies.

The student will learn how to plan, create, and manage social media posts on different platforms to help the department engage with the public. In this role, the student will use digital communication techniques, check how well content is performing using analytics, and develop skills in working with others, branding, and understanding digital ethics. By the end of the experience, the student will have a portfolio showing their progress in communication and media skills.
Professional Development:EOU student employees have an opportunity to engage in professional development and training as a part of the job. Supervisors support the attainment of professional development by either providing internal department-specific training and/or time reassigned from normally scheduled duties to participate in University-wide training opportunities, including appropriate virtual community training opportunities.

Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:Students will be in charge of the following tasks/duties:
Media Tasks
– Develop and maintain a content calendar for social media platforms and campus communication
channels (Instagram, Facebook, info-lines, emails, texts, etc.).
– Create engaging posts, including graphics, videos, stories, and captions, aligned with the department’s mission and values.
– Assist with the department’s event programming and marketing
– Attend campus events (as needed) to gather content (photos, videos, interviews).
– Assist in the development the department’s quarterly newsletters by collecting stories, pictures, and other media necessary.

Food Pantry Support
Customer Service:
– Greet and assist students accessing the food pantry.
– Provide information about pantry services and maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

Inventory Management:
– Organize and stock food and supplies.
– Track inventory levels and report shortages.
– Participate in food distributions and collect donations from donors.

Food Safety:
– Complete annual food safety training and follow protocols.
– Ensure proper labeling and storage of food items.
– Maintain temperature logs for storage.

Program Support:
– Assist in developing pantry programs and outreach initiatives.
– Help coordinate events, including nutrition workshops.

Administrative Tasks:
– Maintain records of pantry usage and assist with data collection.
– Ensure sign-in for students and community members.

Training and Collaboration:
– Participate in training sessions and team meetings.
– Collaborate with staff to enhance pantry operations.
Minimum Qualifications:– Current or following-term undergraduate enrollment of at least 6 credits
– Good academic standing (GPA 2.0 or higher)
– Passing a background check pending employment offer
– Good communication and organizational skills
– Proficiency in basic computer knowledge and academic software
– Ability to lift heavy materials, between 10 pounds to 50 pounds
– Basic Experience in working with social media platforms, content creation software
Preferred Qualifications:– Experience in office support roles
– Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
Ability to lift heavy materials, between 10 pounds to 50 pounds – Experience with event planning, coordination, and marketing.
– Driver’s License (preferred but not required) with good driving record (this is a plus)
– Experience managing social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
– Familiarity with graphic design or content creation tools (Canva, Photoshop, etc.)
