Animal Care Technician

Position offers flexible hours, independent work, convenient location in Badgley Hall, and a supportive and friendly supervisor. Students will have the opportunity to maintain a variety of animal examples for observation in a range of Biology courses.

Experiential Learning:Students will develop skills such as animal husbandry, habitat development, propagation, and water quality assessment that will be applicable for biology students aiming to develop skills in animal care, behavior, anatomy, and reproduction.
Professional Development:Students will be trained in basic animal feeding and care, aquarium/terrarium maintenance, and water quality testing.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:Student employees will be responsible for feeding fish, snails, and rats as well as for regular cleaning and maintenance of aquariums/terrariums. Student employee will also test water chemistry and make necessary adjustments on a weekly basis to ensure habitat conditions comply with International Animal Care and Use standards.
Minimum Qualifications:– Active student enrollment
Preferred Qualifications:– Biology majors or other students with an interest in animal biology
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Experience or interest in learning animal care, aquarium/terrarium habitat development, and water quality.
