Experiential Learning:Through this on-campus position, students will gain hands-on experience in professional communications, administrative support, and data management—key areas relevant to careers in marketing, public relations, higher education, and beyond. By working with systems like Slate and Asana, students will deepen their technical proficiency and attention to detail, particularly in managing confidential student data with accuracy and discretion. This role supports the development of essential employability skills such as time management, problem-solving, collaboration, and clear communication. Students will learn to navigate professional workplace expectations, contribute meaningfully to university outreach efforts, and strengthen their understanding of how internal communication strategies support larger institutional goals. The position complements academic coursework in business, communication studies, data analytics, and education, providing real-world context and reinforcing classroom learning with practical application.
Professional Development:While no formal training is required, students will gain valuable experience working with professional software such as Slate and Asana, develop essential workplace habits, and learn more about higher education communications and data accuracy standards.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:General Office Support
– Assist with routine office tasks and collaborate with University Advancement staff.
– Complete tasks within Inlow Hall and across campus as needed.
Examples include:
Delivering materials to other departments
Organizing materials for events
Providing input and feedback when requested
Data Management and Record Maintenance
– Work with sensitive prospective student data in Slate (student management system); attention to detail is essential.
– Edit and update records for accuracy using both batch and individual record management.
– Merge duplicate records to prevent redundancies and ensure clean data. Packing and Mailing
– Prepare and pack promotional materials, such as acceptance letters, brochures, and grab-sheets.
– Primary mailing days are typically Mondays.
– Volume of work may vary depending on the time of year and mailing needs.
Minimum Qualifications:– Must be enrolled EOU student eligible for Federal Work Study
– Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
– Ability to handle sensitive data with confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:– Freshman standing is preferred
– Previous experience with office or administrative tasks
– Familiarity with database systems (e.g., Slate) or project management tools (e.g., Asana)
