Experiential Leaning:As an HHP LEAP Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in exercise science. You will conduct and analyze non-medical performance and physiology testing, maintain and organize the HPL lab, collaborate in research activities, schedule and manage testing appointments, and engage in wellness assessments for local educators. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge from your studies to real-world tasks, enhancing your understanding of exercise physiology.

You will receive job-specific training provided by the Health and Human Performance Department and participate in University-wide training events. Additionally, you will have access to sponsored training activities, career exploration activities via Career Services, and resume reviews with Career Services and/or WorkSource Oregon. These experiences will help you build professional competencies such as communication, management, and analytical skills, preparing you for diverse career paths.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:– Efficiently and safely conduct physiology and sports performance testing
– Organize, clean, and maintain the HPL lab for optimal functioning and throughout
– Help analyze and produce reports based on testing and results
– Organize, schedule, and communicate with testing clients
– Support ongoing research by helping faculty and capstone students conduct testing and data collection
– Conduct wellness assessments and testing for Teachers and Staff of La Grande School District. Help with the dissemination of health and wellness information for teachers.
– Perform, analyze, and produce reports for recreational athletes in the La Grande Community getting non-medical sports performance evaluations.
– Work with Grande Ronde Rappeller Firefighters to conduct studies and protocols for testing, assessing, and tracking wildland firefighter fitness.
– Research exercise science equipment and field equipment that can contribute to future labs
Minimum Qualifications:– Current EOU enrollment, junior or senior standing.
– HHP major
– Excellent organizational and communication skills.
– The student must be highly organized and responsible
Preferred Qualifications:– Prior lab experience or similar roles.
– Exercise science or PES concentration preferred
– Completion of EXS 323 Exercise Physiology course.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:– Proficiency in physiological testing and data analysis.
– Strong interpersonal skills to interact with diverse groups
