Capstones

What is a Capstone?

Depending on your major, a Capstone may be written as a term paper, a research project, a course, or a senior seminar. Your capstone should incorporate the knowledge and skills that you have gained from working on your baccalaureate degree. Although this project is not graduate level work, it gives you the opportunity to study in depth an academic topic that may be of interest to you.

You may choose to begin preparing for your Capstone from the beginning of your university studies. Whatever form the Capstone takes, it is a process that requires thoughtfulness, focus, and a readiness to work directly with a faculty member who will guide you. Capstones are completed during the senior year, as a culmination to an academic career at EOU.

*If your major’s capstone entails a research paper, be sure to obtain style and research information from the Teaching Faculty Capstone Advisers. Further resources are located on the EOU Writing Lab (OWL).
