Verification

Verification is a process used to verify certain information on the FAFSA. Some students are selected for verification by the US Department of Education. Others are selected by Eastern Oregon University because of discrepancies in information. If you have been selected for verification, we will require specific documents to get you verified.

Documents required for dependent students:

1. A signed copy of the student's federal tax returns for the prior year (2006 taxes for the 2007-08 academic year or 2007 taxes for the 2008-09 year).
2. The student's W-2's for the same tax year.
3. A signed copy of the parents' federal tax returns for the prior year.
4. The parent's W-2's for the same tax year.
5. Complete the dependent verification worksheet, found on our forms page, for the appropriate academic year.

Documents required for independent students:

1. A signed copy of the student's federal tax returns for the prior year (2006 taxes for the 2007-08 academic year or 2007 taxes for the 2008-09 year).
2. The student's W-2's for the same tax year.
3. Complete the independent verification worksheet, found on our forms page, for the appropriate academic year.

We may also require a statement on income if it appears to be low.

Verification may change your estimated award. Be aware that you may have less need (or more) based on corrections we make as a result of verification. If this happens, you will be notified of your updated award.
