Oregon Health & Science University’s School of Nursing in La Grande and Eastern Oregon University’s Wellness Program are gearing up for their annual partnership event, which combines the Rita Monahan Walk-A-Thon and university wellness fair. This is the fourth consecutive year that OHSU and EOU have teamed up to offer the health and wellness event on campus. The Rita Monahan Wellness Event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday, May 4th at Dorion Park, near the corner of 6th St. and H Ave in La Grande. The public
event is free and includes a 5K walk/run, health-related booths, music, raffle items, health
screenings and fitness demonstrations. Registration is required to participate in the 5K walk/run and
includes an event T-shirt. $20 for community members and $15 for EOU / OHSU students. Pre-
registration is open now and ends April 14th. Pre-register to guarantee a T-shirt. To register
or make a donation, follow the Register now link. If you would like to just make a donation, put the desired amount under additional donations.
This will be the 19th annual event honoring a beloved OHSU Professor, Rita Monahan, who motivated and encouraged her students to excel. Before her passing in 1999 from colon cancer, Rita generously requested that a scholarship fund be created in her memory, to assist graduating students in paying for their RN licensure examination.
