Eastern Oregon University is honored to be hosting the 11th annual CEAD (Create, Educate, Appreciate, Diversity) Conference. This event is sponsored by many clubs on campus: The Center for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging; the Student Council for Multicultural Affairs; the EOU Diversity Committee, and the Oregon Teacher Pathway Program.

Eastern Oregon University is committed to creating an environment where the community promotes mutual respect by participating in intercultural and inclusive activities. This makes CEAD a great opportunity for all students.

The theme for this year’s conference is overall healing, using intentional conversations that engage in the topics of gender, identity, sexuality, and censorship. The power of communication, openness, and honesty is their goal in order to unpack the dynamics of identity.

This conference offers diverse training and educational opportunities for students. It also supports Eastern Oregon University’s mission when it comes to creating an intercultural community. Students who participate in this event will gain awareness of power, perspective, and perseverance, as well as a greater understanding of stereotypes, basis, backgrounds, cultures and worldviews through dialog. According to EOU’s website, “students will learn about diversity, equity and social justice as well as gain skills that will enable them to be responsible and reflective campus and community leaders as well as advocates for creating a more inclusive campus community.” The conference promotes personal growth skills that engage students to use critical thinking, and empower leaders who actively support diversity, and educate how dimensions impact their individual interactions and perceptions.

There will be one keynote guest speaker, and two workshop presenters, all of whom will share their personal experiences with diversity in beautiful forms. The goals of these individuals are to express their passion and create an engaged audience who cares about the future by connecting one another through values of family, friendship, community, and growth. They will also advocate for change, and the desire to create a better society socially and intellectually.

CEAD conference is taking place April 23, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. PST in Badgley Hall on EOU’s campus. This event is open and free to all students; it is $20 for non-EOU students from other institutions, $30 for EOU faculty and staff, and $40 for community members. There is also an opportunity for others who are interested to participate online via Zoom. As the event gets finalized, they ask that you please register for the event. Updates will be posted to CEAD’s website at: www.eou.edu/mc/ and more information can be found at: https://www.eou.edu/mc/programs-services/cead-conference/
