Festive Events to Get You in The Holiday Spirit

The holiday season is upon us! It’s officially that time of year where joy and excitement fill the air. Snow will soon glitter and glisten, lights will create a warm glow wherever you go, and the sound of cheerful laughter between loved ones will fill our ears. 

Whether you are spending this holiday season with loved ones or alone, everyone deserves to experience a little winter magic. This can be as simple as drinking hot chocolate by the fireplace, or if you are feeling adventurous, braving through the cold to attend one of these holiday events and activities near you:

Skiing at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort

Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort offers day passes for skiing, booking for snowcat skiing trips, and overnight yurt rentals with dinner provided. For the holiday schedule the resort will be open December 18 to January 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Nutcracker at Gesa Power House Theatre

For those willing to drive to Walla Walla, Washington, the Gesa Power House Theatre is putting on a production of this classic ballet which will be performed by the Washington State Youth Ballet on December 11. Tickets range from $15 to $25 with showings at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Cut Your Own Christmas Tree at Donivan’s Tree Farm

Make a day out of decorating for the holidays by cutting your own Christmas tree at Donivan’s Tree Farm in La Grande. Now open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with prices from $55 and up. 

Christmas Pony Rides at Victory Acres Farm

On December 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. people of all ages are encouraged to come enjoy hot chocolate and ride the farm ponies. Prices range from $5 to $10 depending on length of pony ride. 

New Year’s Eve Ball Drop in Downtown La Grande

Ring in the new year having enjoyed the fun events provided at the New Year’s Eve Block Party and countdown to midnight surrounded by the La Grande community.

For those who prefer to enjoy these festive events from the comfort of their own home there are many virtual events from all over Oregon.

Virtual Christmas Gala Auction

Join this livestream auction held by Providence Foundations of Oregon on December 2 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. to raise money to provide health care for children under Providence Children’s Health. Beautifully decorated Christmas trees and wreathes will be put up for auction, a raffle ticket event will be held, and performances will happen at this jam-packed virtual event.

Virtual Tree Lighting Ceremony

Watch the two-hour tree lighting ceremony with special local band and choir performances that took place in Portland on November 26 on the KGW8 website.
