Alternative Spring Break is a week-long travel-based course focused on issues of place, language, and culture in the U.S. West. The theme for spring 2025 is “Water Ways,” following the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean, traveling down the Oregon coast to the Redwoods in Northern California, and then returning through central Oregon to La Grande. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students selected for the program will earn two credits of WR 310: Water Ways (AEH Gen Ed) while visiting diverse community and cultural sites over spring break. Peer mentors helping design and leading the course will earn two credits of WR 410: Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies (AEH Gen Ed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025 trip dates:<\/strong> Sunday, March 23 – Saturday, March 29, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priority application deadline: <\/strong>Apply through this link<\/a> by February 10, 2025. Late applications will continue to be accepted as space remains available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Costs covered by EOU: <\/strong>Books, group lodging, meals, transportation, and park entrance fees for all students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Costs covered by students: <\/strong>Two credits EOU tuition (billed as part of spring course load) plus personal spending money and rental fees for any equipment checked out from the EOU Outdoor Program (backpack, sleeping bag, etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All participating students will be required to attend at least one group planning meeting in February or March and two required class meetings after the trip in early April 2025. Students should be prepared to read and discuss course material during the trip and present final assignments the first and second weeks of spring term.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
