A Minor for every Major!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that being bilingual may grant an instant raise from your base salary? According to UCLA (A Mosaic, Not a Monolith: A Profile of the U.S. Latino Population, 2000-2020<\/a>, (Multilingual Workers in High Demand \u2013 Community and Professional Education<\/a>), Latinx population is the only minority that shows a steady, increasing projection in the US. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A Bilingual Future<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n

The Latinx population will be the biggest minority in the US in the foreseeable future. Thus, being bilingual in today\u2019s world means that you are more marketable for companies, having an advantage over the other applicants. Moreover, being bilingual will increase your transferable skills, because you will show that you are able to work alongside people with different backgrounds. Getting a minor in Spanish will make you more compassionate and empathetic. The advantages do not stop there, because you will be an international asset for the company and may be able to visit and get endorsements from abroad while working and earning a salary. You could even become a digital nomad or live in another Spanish-speaking country while working for a US company! But being bilingual will not only help you in your career, it will also enhance your day to day experience as well as broaden your horizons. You will be able to discover other sides of yourself and rediscover your own reality with fresh eyes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Program Coursework<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Spanish department at EOU offers a wide variety of courses ranging from Spanish as a Second Language, to courses created specifically for Heritage Speakers. We also offer courses on literature, film, and cultural studies in the Hispanic world as well as courses in written translation. We are in the process of launching courses in Spanish for the professions (medical, healthcare, social work, education) as well as courses in interpretation that will lead to new certifications.. The different courses are designed with EOU students in mind and are intended to cover the necessary knowledge for each individual to thrive in their future career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
