Each plays an important role in keeping our communities safe and comfortable places to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What we Provide<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p> Housing and Residence Life, as well as the University, provide important tools for you to protect yourself and others. These tools include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One-way peepholes in residence hall doors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electronic access to outside doors as well as locking hardware on all suite\/room doors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Annual lighting surveys, \u201cLet There Be Light,\u201d that give University community members to opportunity to identify areas on campus that need additional lighting or to highlight safety concerns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Campus telephones at the main entrance of each residence hall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emergency \u201cBlue Light\u201d phones in major thoroughfares on campus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trained staff members living in each residence hall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On-duty resident assistants in each building at night during academic terms and available in each hall office between 8 pm and 11 pm Sunday through Thursday and 8 pm and 12 am Fridays and Saturdays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On-call professional staff members 24\/7<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ability for students to restrict access to their directory information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Campus Safety officers on-campus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What You Can Do<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p> Remember, residents are responsible not only for their own behavior but also for the behavior of their guests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are some simple things you can do to keep yourself, your fellow residents, and your belongings secure. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Locking your bedroom\/suite door when you are not in or when you are sleeping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using the peep hole in your suite\/room door to identify visitors before opening your door<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not letting someone you don\u2019t know into your room or letting them follow you into the building when you unlock an outside door<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not propping exterior doors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not attaching your student ID card to your keys so that they are clearly identifiable to anyone who may pick them up<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not lending out your keys to anyone, including other residents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reporting suspicious people or behavior to your resident assistant, hall coordinator, other residence life staff member, Campus Safety, or the police<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reporting lost keys immediately so door fobs can be deactivated and lock changes made<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reporting any crime immediately to a University staff member or the police<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>By assuming shared responsibility for the above, Housing and Residence Life staff and residents can work together to create a safer, healthier community for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit EOU&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/safety-security\/\">Safety and Security web page <\/a>for more information.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Safety and Security in the Residence Halls Safety and security in the residence halls is a shared responsibility between university staff members and residents.
