March 28, 2019 LA GRANDE, Ore. – The 19th annual Rita Monahan Wellness Event combines Oregon Health and Science University’s School of Nursing of La Grande and Eastern Oregon University’s Wellness Program to put on a walk-a-thon and wellness fair.
Before her passing in 1999 from colon cancer, OHSU professor Rita Monahan requested that a scholarship fund be created in her memory to assist graduating students in paying for their registered nurse licensure examination. OHSU and EOU have teamed up for the last four years to honor Monahan, and the tradition continues from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at Dorion Park, near the corner of Sixth Street and H Avenue in La Grande. The public event is free and includes a 5K walk/run, health-related booths, music, raffle items, health screenings and fitness demonstrations.
Registration for the 5k walk run costs $20 for community members and $15 for students. Pre-registration is open now through April 14. Participants receive a T-shirt with the entry fee. To register or make a donation, visit eou.edu/wellness-form.
For questions, contact event coordinator Amy Black at 541-792-0079 or blackam@ohsu.edu.
