Nightingale Gallery to host regional high school art exhibition

Feb. 12, 2018 La Grande – The Nightingale Gallery of Eastern Oregon University is excited to present its annual “Eastern Oregon Regional High School Art Exhibition.”  The exhibition runs February 23 to March 21.  There will be an opening reception for the exhibition Friday, February 23 from 6-8 PM in the gallery. Awards will be presented at 6:30 PM that evening.

The Eastern Oregon Regional High School Exhibition gives audiences the opportunity to engage with the work of students from high schools throughout the region.  Students working in a variety of media from grades nine through 12 will have up to two works on view.  High Schools with students scheduled to participate include: Baker City, Burns, Burnt River, Crane Union, Echo, Enterprise, Grant Union, Joseph, La Grande, North Powder, Pendleton, Prairie City, Union, Vale and Wallowa.

The EOU Art Program faculty juries the exhibit and will award a number of honors. Award certificates, gift cards, sketchbooks and a variety of EOU promotional materials will be presented to the Best of Show winners in grades nine through twelve.  Honorable mentions will also be presented with certificates.

For the tenth year in a row, The La Grande Arts Commission will sponsor a cash award for an outstanding work by a La Grande student artist. Joining the La Grande Arts Commission in presenting special awards are three regional art centers, Union County’s Art Center East, Baker City’s Crossroads Carnegie Art Center and Pendleton Center for the Arts. PCA’s award will be made in conjunction with Pendleton Art and Frame, and the Blue Mountain Community College Foundation.

“The Nightingale Gallery is pleased to be able to encourage the creative endeavors of our region’s youth,” said Cory Peeke, Nightingale Gallery Director. “We hope to support and inspire these students to continue their artistic pursuits as well recognize the hard work and dedication of their teachers who conscientiously and often with limited resources help cultivate such promising young artists.”

The Nightingale Gallery is located in Loso Hall on the campus of Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, OR.  Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 11AM-4PM.  For more information please visit our website or follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
