October 12, 2011 LA GRANDE, Ore. (EOU) – The annual alumni awards and athletic hall of fame ceremony, a parade and a football game between Eastern Oregon University and Montana Tech will be among the activities that will make up EOU’s 2011 Homecoming celebration this week.
EOU Football faces Montana Tech Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
The university has scheduled a full slate of activities beginning Thursday evening and running through Saturday.
Homecoming activities will get under way at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with an opening reception for the Alumni Artists Exhibition in Loso Hall.
The annual Choirs of the Valley concert will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in McKenzie Theatre. It will feature the Union County Children’s Choir, EOU Women’s Choir, Grande Ronde Community Chorus, La Grande High School Choir and EOU Chamber Choir. Special guest performer will be Todd Tschida, an EOU graduate who has been performing in numerous productions in the Portland area. The concert is sponsored by Red Cross United Drug of La Grande. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door.
The annual Homecoming parade in downtown La Grande will form at 4 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Washington, Ninth and O streets. The parade will head down Adams Avenue at 5 p.m. Jim Lundy, retired business manager and dean of finance and administration, will be recognized as grand marshal.
The Alumni Honors and Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony and dessert reception will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the Hoke Main Lounge.
The university will present alumni awards to three individuals in recognition of their professional accomplishments and contributions to their communities and EOU. Fred Hill will receive the distinguished alumnus award; Nellie Bogue-Hibbert will receive the Dixie Lund Service Award; and Jim Lundy will be recognized as honorary alumnus as well as Homecoming parade grand marshal.
Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be April Haney, throwing events specialist with the EOU track team from 1997 to 2001; Shea Little, an offensive lineman with the Mountaineers football team from 1992 to 1997; and the 1997 women’s cross country team that was made up of Jennifer Funk, Keri Fezzey, Mishe Simantel, Jami Tuchscherer, Abby Peters, Jenny Newell and April Richards. The annual Mountaineer Golf Scramble will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Buffalo Peak Golf Course in Union.
The Homecoming football game will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, featuring the Mountaineers versus Montana Tech. The Mountaineer Tailgate Zone begins at 9 a.m.
